The UK is a premium wine producing region, with around 750 commercial vineyards in England and Wales producing around 16 million bottles of wine each year from 160 wineries.
Viticulture and winemaking here has a long and rich history. From Roman times to the present day, wine production has been an important and significant part of our culture and heritage.
A full selection of wines can be produced in the UK, ranging from dry whites to sparkling, with many winning prestigious awards both here and abroad.
English wine is produced from a large selection of grape varieties, carefully developed over the years to succeed and cope with our challenging and unpredictable climate.

The association provides support and advice for winemakers, vineyards and viticulturists throughout the whole of the Midlands & North region, from the Scottish and Welsh borders to the North and West, over to Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire in the East and South.
We meet regularly to support one another, swap ideas and, of course, to enjoy the distinctive experience of English wine.
WineGB Midlands+North is part of the ‘Wines of Great Britain Limited’ Association, and is one of six regional associations.
In joining the Wines of GB Ltd, you will also be asked to join a regional association. The Wines of GB Ltd is the only organisation recognised by the Government and the wider community as representing the English and Welsh wine industry.
The old UK Vineyard Association (UKVA), our affiliated Association, has, since July 2017, merged with the English Wine Producers (EWP) to form one new organisation – the ‘Wines of Great Britain Limited’.
Membership of the WineGB Midlands+North and Wines of GB are linked and in joining both, you will receive the benefits of each.
Joining of WineGB Midlands+North is £30 per year and runs concurrently with the Wines of GB membership.
Please visit www.winegb.co.uk for Wines of GB membership fees and details of how to become a member.
